A guide to the guests, for anyone who wants a conversation starter beyond "so how do you know the couple?"

CARLA'S FAMILY

MAYA SRINIVASAN is Carla's daughter — Vikram's twin, a Stanford grad, and now out in San Francisco at a mental health startup. She's known Carla literally her whole life, since, as she puts it, she was there before she was even born. She and Vikram are both devoted cat people, with Maya's favorite cat being Mittens.

VIKRAM SRINIVASAN is Carla's son — Maya's twin, also a Stanford grad, most recently with a Masters in Computer Science. Vikram also lives in San Francisco and just started working at an AI startup. Per Vikram: "Carla is my mom, woohoo." Correct on all counts. Like his sister, he's an unabashed cat lover, especially Baba, his cat and the latest addition to the family.

JIM & BARBARA WELLS are Carla's aunt and uncle — Jim is Carla's mom's brother. Jim is originally from Enid, OK and Barbara is from Atlanta; they have lived in Bluffton, SC for a few decades and are two of the biggest reasons Carla ended up buying a house in Hilton Head in 2016.

BRITTNY GARRETT is Carla's cousin (and Lacey's sister), from Ada, OK. She lives in Houston, TX, and is a Randolph Macon grad. Brittny was lucky enough to survive all of the Garrett holidays and family (dysfunction) over the years.

LACEY GARRETT & MIKE JONES — Lacey is one of Carla's three cousins and lives outside Houston, TX with her husband, Mike. Carla attended their wedding celebration almost a decade ago. Lacey grew up in Plano, TX. Unfortunately, Lacey's sister, Keely, could not come because it is her children's last Parent's Weekend at OU.

TRACY, JOHN & RYAN PRIDDY — Tracy is Carla's step-sister. Her mom and Carla's dad married when Tracy and Carla were young. Tracy is a judge and John is a very busy lawyer in Tulsa. Ryan, their daughter, is a student at the University of Arkansas. Everyone is an avid Oklahoma football fan.

JOE & BEVERLY KYLE — Beverly is Carla's aunt Barbara's sister, so Joe is the brother-in-law. Atlanta people, now Hilton Head people. Their son, Kevin, will be at the Welcome Party and recently got engaged. Carla is looking forward to meeting his fiancé.

CARLA'S HIGH SCHOOL GANG (MARIETTA, GA)

This crew has kept an annual girls' trip going for decades running — so consider any of them a reliable source on Carla's whereabouts every year since high school.

BROOKE & MICHAEL CUTTER — Brooke is a special education teacher in the Atlanta area, a high school friend, and by her own account, Carla's "MY bestie" (her words, and she's not wrong). Brooke's daughter just wrapped up a traveling PT position in Alaska and is now traveling around Alaska, and her son just graduated from Western Washington. Michael also went to high school with Carla.

SUZANNE QUINLAN — Suzanne is a first grade teacher in the Atlanta area and Carla's oldest friend, dating back to when Carla moved from Oklahoma to Georgia at age 11. Besties ever since. Suzanne's oldest daughter, Anna, just got engaged. Both of Suzanne's daughters went to the University of South Carolina. After graduating college, Suzanne drove out to Aspen and lived with Carla and her Vanderbilt friends. Suzanne is the sister that Carla never had.

LARA & GREG BECKER — Lara and Greg live outside Atlanta. Lara is a bona fide Dorm Room Influencer, Greg flies planes for Delta. Lara has been friends with Carla since 9th grade. They have a son at Auburn and another who just moved to Nashville.

KIMMIE & SHANNON BOWER — Kimmie taught kindergarten for years in Cobb County, GA before a well-earned retirement. Middle school and high school besties with Carla from Marietta, GA and fellow Maine Coon cat people, which is its own kind of loyalty test. Summers find them on Mackinac Island, Michigan. They have a son working in Atlanta who is the same age as Maya and Vikram.

BARBARA WORTH & DOC NORTON — Barbara teaches special education in the Atlanta area. She lived in Newnan, GA for years, but has moved back to East Cobb, GA in the last few years to be near her family and friends. She and Carla met in 7th grade, which at this point is basically a lifetime warranty on the friendship. Doc is her special guest, who Carla is looking forward to meeting.

ASHLEY & JEFF CAVENDER — Ashley and Carla went to Walton High School together and became lifelong best friends with a group of 9 girls in 9th grade — "the rest is history, and there is A LOT of it." Fair warning to Dan: it's a package deal.

SHELLEY & DAVID SPENCER — Shelley has been a friend of Carla's since 6th grade. Shelley is a real estate agent, and she and David live in Charlotte, NC. They have one grandchild, and their youngest daughter is engaged. Carla's high school crew gathered together for their oldest daughter's wedding back in 2019.

CHRISTY UTBERG — Christy has been friends with Carla since 8th grade, and one of the few people who's heard basically every story before meeting Dan and already loves him for it. Christy lives in the Atlanta area and has a cool job at a Family Foundation.

CARLA'S VANDERBILT GANG (ALSO EUROPE GANG, ASPEN GANG, ALASKA PARTY OF FIVE)

CINDY & SCOTT CASSITY — Cindy and Carla lived on the same freshman floor at Vanderbilt and pledged the same sorority; both were Math majors and connected fast. The two of them traveled through Europe together in the summer of 1990 and then lived together in Aspen for a year after college. Carla and Cindy then traveled by car around the western states of the US, and Cindy learned she was very allergic to cats while staying with Carla's brother in West Hollywood, CA. Scott came along for the ride later, and by Cindy's account, "Dan is the sweetest cherry on the cake of our friendship." Their daughter got married in Bozeman, MT a few years back — Carla and Dan were there — and Cindy and Scott are now grandparents. They split their time between Tennessee and Bozeman, MT.

STACI & JAY CRAWFORD — Staci and Carla lived in the same dorm Freshman year and pledged the same sorority. Staci also traveled through Europe with Carla, Cindy, Kay, Laura, and Katie in the summer of 1990. They were in Germany the day that Checkpoint Charlie was removed with a crane. Carla and Dan realized that they were at Checkpoint Charlie in 1990 just days apart. Staci and Jay live in Knoxville, TN. One of their sons is engaged and has just finished law school; another son just received his white coat, following in his dad's footsteps as a doctor; and their youngest, Molly, is at UVA.

DAVID & ELEANOR DENTON — Eleanor and Carla met in college at Vanderbilt and were on the same freshman hall; the Dentons have lived in Fairbanks, Alaska for decades now, even though they are both from the Atlanta area. In 2023, Eleanor and David hosted Carla, Tyna, Katie, and Katherine for the full, raw, blistering-cold Alaskan experience — the trip that earned the standing title, the "Alaska Party of Five." Carla has never been so thrilled to get to a generator-powered cabin with an outhouse, after making a 5 (?) mile snowmobile trip in negative 25-degree weather in the dark. It was the trip of a lifetime. Their dog, Bear, will always be remembered. Their daughter is in med school in Texas, and another daughter is in post-grad school in Boston.

KAY & JACK GOODRUM — Kay and Jack are both Nashville natives. Kay and Carla met in college at Vanderbilt. Kay was in the suite next to Carla's on her freshman hall (there is a theme here). Kay was a fellow traveler on the summer 1990 Europe trip. Kay and Jack met Dan a couple years ago in Bozeman, MT and were fast fans. They're now grandparents at least once over. Jack and Carla share a love for a great Cabernet, and Carla and Kay share many memories of 38 Special and driving around Nashville.

KATIE & BILL MILLER — Katie and Carla were Vanderbilt sorority sisters and lived together in the same room their Senior Year. During that year, Katie's dad was confirmed as a Judge on the 8th Circuit. Katie traveled through Europe with Carla and the gang in the summer of 1990; Katie and Bill live in and are from Minnesota. Katie is a member of the "Alaska Party of Five" who braved a 2023 trip with Carla, Katherine and Tyna to visit the Dentons in Fairbanks. Their son is an amazing hockey player who went to (is at) Harvard and has been drafted into the NHL.

LAURA PLUMMER — Laura lived in Carla's freshman-year dorm at Vanderbilt. She, Kay, Cindy, Katie, Staci and Carla spent 6 weeks in Europe after they graduated from Vandy in 1990. Laura later shared an incredible year living together in Aspen, Colorado with Carla. Laura has small-town southern Illinois roots (Jerseyville), now lives in Kansas City, and is a truly cherished friend. Laura is a doctor and has a wonderful daughter, Olivia, who is Maya and Vikram's age.

KATHERINE STRONG & BETH LINTON — Katherine is a Vanderbilt friend and a member of the "Alaska Party of Five," having joined Carla's 2023 trip to visit the Dentons in Fairbanks, Alaska; Beth first met Carla at Obama's second inauguration in DC. Expect them to be thrilled to "hang with some sane liberals" this weekend. Katherine and Beth live in Atlanta and travel A LOT.

BETSY & RAFA SAN MIGUEL — Betsy is a Vanderbilt friend and fellow Aspen alumni. Betsy lived on Carla's freshman year hall at Vanderbilt. She and Rafa live in Atlanta. Their three sons are all superstars — one is at MIT for a post-graduate degree, one is studying in Europe, and the youngest plays basketball at Georgia Tech.

TYNA & BARRON STEVENSON — Tyna is Carla's sorority sister from Vanderbilt, who also lived on Carla's freshman year hall. Tyna and Barron are Dalton, GA natives. Tyna is a real estate agent in Dalton. Tyna and Carla have been partners in a long string of adventures across Nashville, New Orleans, and Aspen. Tyna lived in Aspen after college and is a member of the "Alaska Party of Five" who went to Alaska in 2023 to visit Eleanor and David.

SHERRY & RICK BROWN — Sherry completes the package of Vanderbilt friends who were on Carla's freshman year hall. Sherry and Carla spent a great year together in Aspen after college. Sherry and Rick live in Ponte Vedra Beach, FL, and also are parents of boy/girl twins!

CARLA'S STANFORD LAW CLOSE FRIENDS

GABBY & MARK PARCELLA — Gabby met Carla on one of the first days of Stanford Law. Gabby attended the University of Texas and was one of the few "southerners" at Stanford Law (as were Carla and Amy). Gabby is from El Paso, Texas and Mark is from Michigan. Gabby and Mark have lived in San Francisco since law school. Gabby has traded practicing law for running companies as a CEO. Their two sons are both currently students at Stanford. Gabby and Carla went to law school with and are friends with Jeff Connaughton, a friend of Dan's from the DC area.

AMY WENDLING — Carla met Amy the first week of Law School. Amy has also taken a gap year, living in Vail, Colorado. Amy also graduated from Duke in 1990 – a year before Dan, so their paths may have crossed. Amy is from Newport News, VA and has lived in the San Francisco Bay Area since law school. Amy is a lawyer at OpenAI (!!), having previously practiced at Google and Dropbox; her own kids are at the University of Richmond and Dartmouth.

JUSTINE YOUNG GOTTSHALL & JUD DELOSS — Justine and Carla went to law school together at Stanford, which makes them friends for more decades than should really be possible. Justine is from Laurel, MD, and Jud is from Fargo, ND; they live in Chicago now — and just got engaged themselves!! Years before privacy law was the industry it is today, Justine started her own privacy law firm. Justine's daughter is an up-and-coming country artist in Nashville.

MAYWOOD – CARLA'S ARLINGTON, VIRGINIA NEIGHBORHOOD

Maywood was the kind of "Leave It to Beaver" neighborhood in Arlington, VA — practically the platonic ideal of a place to raise a family – where Carla lived for over twenty years and raised Maya and Vikram and made lifelong friends.

CHRIS FRIEDLI — Chris is a super close friend of Carla's from Arlington. They met in Maywood when their kids (Maya, Vikram and Josie) were just babies. Carla remembers being so excited to see another mom with a baby at the neighborhood grocery store and then stalked Chris (funny that Chris remembers the story the other way around). Chris and Ken (who will be missed but remembered this weekend) had a great (small and cozy 1 bathroom) lake house in Deep Creek, MD, where everyone gathered for years for fun lake trips and also skiing adventures at Wisp Mountain. Lots of great memories from those times together. Chris recently moved to Philadelphia from Easton, Maryland. Chris' daughter, Parker, just graduated from Vanderbilt and her son is a sophomore at Vanderbilt.

SUSAN & MATTHEW PASCOCELLO — Susan and Matthew are close friends from Maywood and they have known Carla since their kids were little. They are fellow parents of boy/girl twins – Claire and Alex – who are 2 years older than Maya and Vikram. Alex just moved to Chicago, and Claire just finished an AmeriCorps internship in Montana. Susan is from Winchester, VA; Matthew is a Brooklyn native. Susan and Matthew are both lawyers, although Matthew has crossed over to a more fun side of the law. Susan was acting General Counsel of USAID for many years.

CINDY RAMSAY & MARTY BAHAMONDE — Cindy and Marty are true, through-and-through, Maywood close friends of Carla's, and they loved Dan on sight. Cindy grew up in upstate New York, Marty was born in North Dakota and raised in Illinois; both are former FEMA superstars. Cindy's daughter, Ella, went through all of school with Maya and Vikram. Between Cindy and Marty they have four kids, each 1 year apart. They have recently retired to Mt. Dora, Florida where they have a beautiful house and are busy growing Mango and Avocado trees. Carla was fortunate to be at their wedding at the Jefferson Memorial about a decade ago. Cindy has been to Ada, Oklahoma, Carla's birthplace, twice! Most recently, with Marty, to help Carla and Dan clean out the Garrett Book Company.

LORI & LARRY SHER — Lori and Larry met Carla in Maywood, likely at the mini park over 20 years ago, and became instant friends. Larry's connection to Dan's family runs deep: Dan's father was Larry's mentor for years, and Larry went on to become a partner at Manatt Phelps — the law firm Dan's father founded. To this day, Lori and Larry still call Dan "Danny." Lori is from New Orleans, and they have a second home there. Their daughter just graduated from Tulane. Lori is responsible for giving Carla "just a bit" of legal work for E*TRADE in 2011. To this day, E*TRADE and Morgan Stanley, its successor, keep Carla very busy with lots of legal work.

GARY & JEANNE SHIFFMAN — Jeanne and Gary were Carla's next-door neighbors in Maywood for years, and Carla has spent the past decade serving as outside general counsel to the company Gary founded. Jeanne is a doctor and a Long Island native by way of Virginia. Gary and Jeanne moved to Greenville, SC during Covid. Their daughter, Phoebe, is getting married in South Carolina in October, and their daughter Belle is a Clemson graduate.

THE NANNY WHO BECAME FAMILY

ELSIE PIERRE — Maya and Vikram's nanny since 2002, their first and only one, and very much part of the family at this point. Originally from Haiti, now in DC.

CLOSE FUN FRIENDS FROM HILTON HEAD

MARCIA ALLEN — grew up in Silver Spring, MD, and met Carla, fittingly, at the Hilton Head airport on a flight back to Maryland. Friends ever since. Her son Spencer is cat-sitting for Muffin and Mittens (Carla's and Dan's cats) in Bethesda, MD while Carla and Dan are on their honeymoon.

PEGGY & CHRIS FINN — met Carla at Sea Pines Country Club and became instant friends; their daughter Molly just got married at Sea Pines too, so they know exactly what this weekend is like from the other side. Both are excellent tennis players, and Chris has also mastered golf and pickleball.

LISA & DON MILLS — Sea Pines Country Club friends and huge sports fans, just like Carla. Lisa and Don are from Texas. Lisa is an artist who just joined a gallery in Bluffton, and Don is enjoying a recent retirement. Their son lives in Chicago.

CHRISTINA BEALL & ROB GRANLUND — also Sea Pines Country Club friends; Christina is the Dean of Nursing at Belmont College, and she commutes back and forth between Hilton Head and Nashville. She and Rob were friends in high school, in Leesburg, VA, and she spent years living in Park City, Utah before Hilton Head. Christina's daughter is living in Japan, and is the same age as Maya and Vikram.

HA NGUYEN — Hilton Head, by way of Nebraska. Her review of the friendship, verbatim: "CARLA IS MY GOOD FRIEND." She owns Le Spa at Sea Pines and is an excellent hair designer.

DIANNE & MATT DONOHUE — Dianne met Carla at a Liberal Ladies new members event in Hilton Head, when they had both driven down from the DC area that same day – just to go to the new members meeting! Dianne works for the IMF, and Matt is nearing retirement. They are about to move to Richmond, VA to be closer to family.

TODD & SARAH BROOKS — Both Todd and Sarah went to Vanderbilt and deserve enormous credit for bringing Carla to Hilton Head in the first place. Todd found Carla's house and told her that he was going to buy the property if Carla didn't. (Carla trusted this to be true and has been so happy living on the beach in Hilton Head ever since.) Sarah is from Atlanta and Todd is from Memphis. Their two sons have recently gotten married, and they are expecting a grandchild; their daughter lives in Paris pursuing photography. They enjoy spending time in Park City.

MAYA & VIKRAM'S CREW

AKASH GUPTA — Maya's boyfriend. Akash was in Maya's and Vikram's class at Stanford, and recently received his Masters from Stanford. He is the founder of an AI startup in San Francisco, and is from McLean, VA. Small world fact: He went to 4th grade with Patrick, Dan's nephew.

AIDA ANDERSON — Maya's best friend since kindergarten at Escuela Key Spanish Immersion Elementary School in Arlington. Aida is a Duke grad and is now a nurse in DC.

ANGELICA SCHAUBACH — another Arlington elementary school friend of Maya's and Vikram's. Angelica is a food scientist, a University of Illinois grad, and lives in Chicago.

CAMILLA REGALIA — one of Maya's oldest friends from Arlington, currently in medical school in New York, and a recent Brown grad. In her words, Carla "was like a second mom" during some hard years growing up — and Carla couldn't be prouder of who she's become.

JOSIE FRIEDLI — Chris Friedli's daughter, and one of Maya's good friends since elementary school; Josie went to boarding school in Delaware and graduated from Emory. She works for a Maryland state lobbying firm in Annapolis, MD. She is cat-sitting Muffin and Mittens while Carla and Dan are on their honeymoon.

GIULIA MESA — Maya's close friend since high school. Giulia graduated from the Naval Academy, and is currently living in Corpus Christi, Texas mastering her flying skills. She was supposed to get her Pilot Wings this weekend, but that was moved a few weeks, so she is a late "YES" to the Wedding Weekend, and everyone is so excited that she could come.

LINDSAY SCHWARTZ — Lindsay is one of Maya's best friends from Stanford. She is part of a group of about 9 friends that lived together in the same freshman dorm and have stayed best buds – even visiting Hilton Head a few times as a group. (The group consists of friends from India, Australia, California, the Midwest, Jackson, WY, and NY.) Lindsay is a consultant at BCG in New York. Lindsay and Maya studied abroad together in Florence, Italy.
